Creating something new is like climbing Everest.
We want to see more innovation, so we invest in climbers.

But we don't knock them down;
we use our knowledge and experience to help them up.

Entrepreneurial Development

Opus Faveo is, above all, dedicated to seeing more success in commercial innovation. How does one create more success?  How does one innovate innovation? Hubris and smarts only take one so far.

We begin by looking for problems in the existing dynamic and testing conventional wisdom. The people who make up Opus Faveo are extremely critical thinkers - that's who we recruit. But we challenge them to go one step further. The startup industry is predicated on the venture-capital driven weed-out model. Let's find the winners. The operative question is IF this will succeed.

Opus Faveo is a business and one cannot wholly escape resource allocation issues. But for our people, the operative question is HOW this can be made to succeed. At every stage of involvement, we continue to force ourselves to move beyond identifying the challenges. Crafting solutions is far more interesting.

The Venture Development Engagement

We will give anyone with a scalable venture or idea a one-hour meeting.  As with all of our activities, we challenge ourselves to be supportive and energizing to the founder(s) while using our experience, critical thinking skills and analytical frameworks to the fullest.  We continuously force ourselves to focus on how to make a venture succeed rather than asking whether it will succeed.  If we believe that we can add value to the venture over the long term, and that a partnership could make sense, we offer a limited number of such ventures the opportunity to continue working with us.

Strengths-Based Coaching

Yes, we provide advice. Yes, we hear repeatedly that it is unique, compelling, and extremely helpful. But again, how do we go further? We identify strengths and try to build upon them. In assembling teams, we seek to put into practice what economist David Ricardo called Comparative Advantage. Focus on building and applying strengths, identify gaps, and be clever in how you fill those gaps. If you are doing something extremely difficult, tough love can be helpful, but encouragement and support are often more helpful, especially for the Executive Entrepreneur.

Enthusiasm and naïveté have their merits.
But proven, highly trained and experienced managers make good leaders too.

Wisdom also has its merits.

Executive Entrepreneurs

Young innovators. The triumph of hope over the cynicism of reality. These are the stories of novels and film. We love them too. And they do occur in real life. However...

Experienced executives have been carefully identified through rigorous selection processes. They have been trained, often with large investments made in them by their employers. They have been initiated by fire. Experience builds upon experience, giving them reality-based touchstones to which they can refer with every new challenge. They are buoyed by past victories and hardened by defeats.

When searching for leaders in critical roles, Boards of Directors do not usually cite inexperience as a virtue. And they generally do not task executive search firms to find candidates whose prime qualification is innocence.

Supporting the Creative Executive

We support young entrepreneurs, but Opus Faveo has a particular interest in attracting, supporting and encouraging executive entrepreneurs, whom we define as experienced professionals with 10+ years of experience with an interest in building a new venture. Our objective is to provide a positive and supportive environment where experienced people with entrepreneurial ambitions can thrive, work, and increase economic activity through venture development.
